International Language StudiesPublished on November 22, 2018
I believe in the International Languages Program. As an immigrant, I understand the value of learning the language of your heritage as a manner of preserving your heritage and encouraging family values. I believe that children and young people should be encouraged and have the resources available to them to learn languages. All studies in the field of education indicate that learning languages is incredibly healthy for the brain development for young children. By presenting this Motion to recognize the International Languages Program, I hope to save this program at all 44 schools in the Greater Toronto Area that currently provide this program through the Toronto Catholic District School Board. “That, in the opinion of this House, the Government of Ontario should recognize the success of the International Languages Program provided by the Toronto Catholic District School Board, and upon the completion of this transition funding period, the Toronto Catholic District School Board should find mechanisms so that they can permanently support the study of international languages in the elementary division in schools under its jurisdiction."
